Alan manchip - Holford
This is a family run business that was established by Alan Manchip in Holford in 1983 with just one man and a van.The business grew and Alan Manchip had to take on another electrician to cope with the increase in work. Then in 1986 Alan’s son Glen Manchip joined the business and it has gone from strength to strength. Alan Manchip specialises in the refrigeration and air conditioning and Glen Manchip concentrates on the electrical work.
As the business continued to grow it became necessary to move to larger premises and in 2003 we had purpose built offices and a work shop constructed. We have a fleet of modern, fully equipped vans servicing an area of roughly 30 – 45 mile radius but we do go further a field for bigger contracts.We became incorporated in October 2004.All our electrical engineers are fully qualified to City and Guilds 2360 standard and we pride ourselves on our continued commitment to training. We usually have an intake of apprentices each September and work closely with Bridgwater College for our training programme.
We are NICEIC Approved Contractors (National Inspection Council for Electrical Installation Contractors – enrolment number 024805000) UKAS Product Certification 118. The business has been assessed as having the technical capability to carry out electrical work in accordance with BS 7671: Requirements for electrical Installations (IEE Wiring Regulations).Membership of the NICEIC also means that we are registered NICEIC Domestic Installers. Any electrical work which involves new additions to a domestic installation requires a Domestic Installers certificate which complies with Part P Regulations.
Alan Manchip Electrical is now Exor Accredited.Exor is the leading independent accreditation service provider to the public sector and the general public. The Exor Accreditation standard is widely recognised as a statement of quality that demonstrates;
• Financial Viability.
• Competent Administrative Procedures.

This is a medium sized company which is small enough to carry out work for the private individual, but large enough take on contracts with Councils, Architects and Building Contractors. Our minimum charge is one hour for a call out. For larger jobs that require a written price, we will attend site to prepare a schedule or work from the Architects drawings. Estimates are free and our price range depends on the materials and labour involved. Prices can start as low as £100 up to £100,000 according to the client’s requirements.
If a client chooses to use an Architect or a Building Contractor, the Project Manager can deal direct with us to cover several aspects of the job. Councils, Building Contractors and Architects that have used us in the past have found it very useful to have just one company on site. It is much easier for them to schedule first fix and second fix through one contact instead of several different contractors.
We are one of the few air conditioning companies that are also NICEIC registered so we are able to do the air condition and the associated electrics. Therefore the client only has to deal with one contractor for the entire installation.
For our clients with air conditioning and commercial refrigeration we automatically send a reminder every six months when the routine maintenance service is due. If the client takes up the option to have the service carried out, it prolongs the life of the appliance. We also offer the same reminder service for clients with security and fire alarms and this brings peace of mind to know that everything is in working order.
We also offer a 24 hour emergency call out service. Sometimes a power failure is due to something which is quite trivial and we can solve the problem by giving advice over the phone. Sometimes the fault could have very serious implications and we are able to send a qualified electrician to attend site at fairly short notice to avert major problems. Each emergency call out is assessed individually.

Additional Information
Global warming is the current buzz word and with it will come an increase in air conditioning. The summer of 2006 saw a sustained heat wave and an increase in the sales of air conditioning systems. Retail outlets with air conditioning find that their sales increase because their customers have a more pleasant shopping experience.
Employers who have offices with lots of staff and computers all generating heat are installing air conditioning to improve the work environment and the output of their staff.Apart from the cooling effect of air conditioning, it is also the cheapest form of heating. It takes 1 kilowatt of power to generate 7 kilowatts of heating. This means that with the right air conditioning system for your particular situation, you can now have steady state conditions all year round.
If you are considering heating a room, or a new extension, it may be more economic in the long term to install air conditioning rather than extend your existing central heating system. Apart from the heating aspect the air conditioning will also give you the benefit of cooling in the summer.Many people are adding a conservatory to their home to give them an extra room. Often they find that the conservatory is too hot in the summer and too cold in the winter so they can only enjoy their conservatory in the spring and autumn when the weather is temperate.
Some people install a fan in their conservatory for cooling in the summer and a heater for warmth in the winter but an air conditioning system would do both jobs and be far more controllable and efficient.The government wants us all to reduce our “carbon foot-print” so if you buy air conditioning with a heat pump for your home (or a charity), the VAT is only 5% instead of 17 ½ %. The difference could make heating and cooling more affordable than cooling only.
