The Arthritis National Research Foundation is a non-profit whose primary objectives include raising money for arthritis research. For more than 40 years, the Arthritis National Research Foundation has funded arthritis research to understand the causes, preventions and development of new treatments for osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, juvenile arthritis and other autoimmune diseases.

The Arthritis National Research Foundation provides arthritis research grants and medical grants to brilliant, young MD and PhD scientists at major universities and research institutes across America. One- and two-year arthritis research grants allow these young scientists to develop their important research to a stage where it can be continued and further supported by national agencies.

Funding strictly arthritis research and young scientists, ANRF’s programs have been very successful. Initially, one to two grants per year were awarded in California only. Since those early days, the foundation has grown to become a national organization and currently funds 12-16 fellowships in the research of arthritis each year across the country. We have funded approximately 200 scientists to date and nearly 95% of ANRF grantees have stayed in this specific arthritis research. Each year, ANRF’s Scientific Advisory Board employs National Institutes of Health (NIH) procedures to review the grant applications received from grant applicants across the United States. Medical grants and research grants are awarded to only the most qualified scientists with original and promising research projects. We are proud that 91cents of each dollar contributed to the foundation goes toward research for arthritis.

Arthritis Research success

The Arthritis National Research Foundation (ANRF) has funded 175 scientists since its inception. In this section, you will learn about some of the earlier and recent studies we have funded and the research success that resulted from their efforts.

For over 40 years, ANRF has supported brilliant young Ph.D. and M.D. investigators to promote and develop their new research discoveries, encouraging them to continue in medical research.

Result: 95% of the scientists who received an ANRF grant continue to work in medical research. Moreover, they have received long term support from national funding agencies, such as the National Institutes of Health, for their programs. ANRF fellows have made important breakthrough discoveries, established their own laboratories and become distinguished leaders in their fields at universities and research institutes nationwide.
