Additional Information
Mcusta knives are precision manufactured using 3D.CAM technology as the design medium; employing high-tech lasers and CNC machines for the fabrication of the various components. The finished cutting instrument, however, is entrusted to the hands of experienced craftsmen for the assembly, finish and final inspection.
As their success grew, they graduated from the bread truck/motor home to a truck and trailer. In 1978, after settling in Golden, Colorado, Spyderco was founded and began producing knife sharpeners. It wasn't until 1981 that the first folding knife was produced, the C01 Worker. It was the first knife to feature the now-familiar round hole in the blade to aid in quick opening of the knife, and it is now the company's trademark.
Over the years, Spyderco has experimented with many new types of blade steels. They were the first company to use powder metallurgy in a production knife (Crucible's S60V tool steel in 1994). Another first was the use of H1, a practically rust-proof steel, in a folding knife.
Spyderco has collaborated with a long list of custom knife makers through the years in the design of various models, from the legendary to the up-and-coming. Here are just a few: Bill Moran, Bob Terzuola, Bob Lum, Ken Onion, Mike Snody, Jens Anso and many more.
Product and Services
Working in collaboration with custom knifemakers from the very beginning, Browning has developed several commemorative knives over the years that have been well received by the knife buying public. Currently, Browning is partnered with Russ Krommer, a custom knifemaker and Big-Game hunter, for the design of their outdoor knives and, with the help of edged-weapons instructor Jared Wihongi, the design of their situation-critical tactical knives, the Black Label series.
For the discriminating collectors among us, Browning offers a handsome Damascus line: the Storm Front series. Forged in the USA and Japan respectively, this series showcases beautiful 200 layer high-carbon Damascus steel fixed blade field knives and 71 layer stainless steel Gentleman's folders, fine enough for the display case, but fit enough for the field.
