Being owned by some very active dogs our quest to exercise them and keep them healthy, happy, andAbout Us well behaved led us to source some of the great gear we have on our web site today.
One of our great loves is our walks in the beautiful Scottish Countryside. Just like you we’ll take our dogs along and within an hour or so we can be at the beach or in a forest and up the hills. It was in our search for gear that our dogs could use on these walks, that we found our first product, the Ruff Wear Palisades Back Pack. This was fantastic, now we could get the dogs to carry their own water, treats and even a few things for us. And best of all our dogs loved having a load to carry and a job to do. Our realization that many people wanted the same, came when we kept getting stopped and asked where everyone could buy the gear we had on our own dogs. The next thing you know, K9Active.co.uk was born.
That first product has now grown to include a large selection of gear for the active outdoor dog and their owner. We believe in and use the products we sell and if it doesn’t meet our dog’s standards then K9Active won’t sell it.
In 2010 the K9active team went mobile doing local shows like the Scottish Kennel Club at Edinburgh, Bark in the Park a local charity show to raise money for re-homing dogs and our favourite show the Scottish Countryside Festival at Glamis Castle,it is so nice to meet our customers new and old, meeting your dogs and getting your feedback about our products and ideas for new products to add to our web site.
It was also in 2010 that we met Colin and his Border Terrier Mitch, “ the fastest dog in Scotland”, who we sponsor. Colin and Mitch compete in Canix all over the U.K and qualified for the European Championship in Belgium, and is still running and doing well.

Amber – Belgian Shepherd
Amber is our chief product tester, and is quite happy to try any new products whether they be a new toy to run after or a new line in sporty clothing.
She loves the water and will quite happily swim out to retrieve a toy, and puts the boys to shame.
Her favourite toys are the Hovercraft and Turn-Up in fact if she can run after it she'll love it. She is even partial to a game of tug with Blue and his toys.
Being a Belgian Shepherd Amber doesn't have a problem with the cold weather, but with the kind of climate we have here she can get very wet and dirty. (Boss: I think that’s why my favourite product is the Hurtta Pro Overalls).
Recently Amber became a doggy blood donor. She gives blood three to four time a year and the blood she donates can be given to four different dogs in need. She is also registered with our Vet, which means she can be called upon to give blood day or night in case of an emergency. (Thankfully, she has not been called upon so far.) If you would like your dog to become a doggy blood donor too all you have to do is register with the Pet Blood Bank.
Chez – Weimaraner
Although Chez is no longer with us, it was because of him and Amber that K9Active was born. Like Amber, Chez loved trying out all the new products, especially the Hurtta Winter Jacket and Raincoat as he did like to keep warm and dry.
His favourite toy was the Critter Ball which he would acquire stealth like, if it wasn’t kept under lock and key.
In his younger days he was happy to go on long walks with his Ruff Wear Palisade Pack filled with water, treats and the more mundane things like poop bags and lead.
In his latter years Chez was our chief bed tester, always making sure he had the most comfortable spot even if it meant the sofa, and even better if you had heated it up before hand.
Blue – Hungarian Vizsla
Blue, the smallest member of the K9Active team, we gave him the nick name of BooBoo from a very young age. Unknown to us his Granddad also has a nick name Yogi Bear talk about a funny coincidence.
He loves toys soft, hard, squeaky or bouncy, so much so he is now K9Active’s official dog toy tester. His best trick is to sneak in to the stock room when no one is looking to check out the new arrivals.
(Boss: I wondered why the stock never adds up)
He is a typical Vizsla and hates the cold and the rain, which is a bit of a problem as he lives in Scotland the home of cold wet weather. This means he is the ideal candidate to test out all our winter dog jackets.
His new best friends are the four girls that have moved in to our back garden, don’t know if he realises yet that they are chickens and not new puppies.
