Abalene East, a painting and decorating student from Kent, has painted her way to victory in the grand final of the 2014 Dulux Decorator Centres national Apprentice of the Year competition after impressing the judges with her fantastic brushwork and attention to detail.
Abale was one of 11 students who took part in the two-day national final, which took place on 10th and 11th June at New College Durham. The final saw Abalene go head to head with ten other talented painting and decorating students from all over the UK and Northern Ireland, all of which secured their places after winning the regional heat.

As well as receiving the Apprentice of the Year accolade Abalene was given a 1000 cash prize and a generous selection of products and tools from supplier sponsors at a black tie gala dinner and presentation ceremony at the prestigious Lumley Castle.David Gardner from Edinburgh College was the runner up in the competition, while Sophie Willingham of Hartlepool College of Further Education picked up third place.
