Criminal Law
After two years of corporate work Rishi made the switch to his primary interest, criminal law. He began by first acting as Crown Counsel, prosecuting primarily narcotics related offences, and then becoming a criminal defence lawyer. Read an article in the National magazine (the official periodical of the Canadian Bar Association) about his “crossing the street” from Crown to Defence.
Since becoming a criminal defence lawyer Rishi has focused on a wide variety of cases, including many high profile matters in British Columbia (see the In The News section for further details).
Recently, Rishi completed a one-year term with the British Columbia Securities Commission as a prosecuting counsel in the Enforcement Division.
Like all practicing lawyers within the province Rishi is a member of the Law Society of British Columbia. He is also a member of the Canadian Bar Association and its British Columbia Criminal Law Subsection, the National Association of Criminal Defence Lawyers, and the British Columbia Civil Liberties Association. He regularly appears as a guest lecturer and has acted as supervising lawyer to the UBC First Nations Legal Clinic. Rishi also volunteers his time as a mentoring lawyer to the UBC Law School and assists with advocacy programs at both UBC and the Law Society of BC.
