X-rays are an essential part of diagnosis during your oral exam. X-rays help detect problems that may not be visible by naked eye. These help detect caries between the teeth or recurrent decay under the old fillings. They also help us detect problems such as bone loss around the teeth, impacted teeth, infections, cysts, tumours and even cancer. Digital X-rays emit 70% less radiation than conventional film X-rays. They are also more clear which makes them more accurate in diagnosing potential problems.
One great cost-effective way to prevent cavities from developing is application of dental sealants. Many molar teeth have small deep grooves called pits and fissures. Because these grooves are hard to clean properly, they are often susceptible to decay.
Sealants are thin layer of resin and are applied to the deep grooves of Molar teeth. Prior to placing the sealants the tooth is thoroughly cleaned and inspected. The procedure is quick, painless, and does not require any freezing or drilling.Placement of sealants is usually recommended after the age of 6 when first set of permanent molar teeth have erupted.
