Medical Protection Society Limited - London
Medical Protection Society is the leading society for medical indemnity protection, helping you to avoid risk and provide medicolegal advice. The Medical Protection Society is the world’s leading protection organisation for doctors, dentists and healthcare professionals. We protect and support the professional interests of more than 290,000 members around the world.
Our benefits include access to indemnity, expert advice and peace of mind. Highly qualified advisers are on hand to talk through a question or concern at any time.MPS successfully defends over 76% of claims and potential claims notified to us.Our in-house experts assist with the wide range of legal and ethical problems that arise from professional practice. This includes clinical negligence claims, complaints, medical and dental council inquiries, legal and ethical dilemmas, disciplinary procedures, inquests and fatal accident inquiries.
Our philosophy is to support safe practice in medicine and dentistry by helping to avert problems in the first place. We do this by promoting risk management through our workshops, E-learning, clinical risk assessments, publications, conferences, lectures and presentations.
In practice that means:Compensating patients – MPS helps doctors to deal professionally with any claims and, when appropriate, pay costs and damages.Defending reputations – We do not settle claims simply on the basis that it is cheaper to do so than to try and mount a defence. Frivolous claims get short shrift.
Encouraging good practice – We firmly believe that prevention is better than cure. With that in mind we devote substantial resources to risk management, concentrating on areas which have been shown to cause problems, such as patient confidentiality or keeping good medical records. With publications, seminars and risk management, we aim to encourage the safest practice, enabling the medical profession to provide an excellent service to the community.
Our whole ethos is focused on putting your needs first. Every day we help members deal with difficult issues arising from their clinical practice, whether they be regulators challenging their professional competence, or patients making complaints or claims for clinical negligence. Just as you do with your own patients, we can provide expertise, reassurance and support to help you through the relevant processes and see things to a resolution.
MPS is not an insurance company. All the benefits of membership of MPS are discretionary as set out in the Memorandum and Articles of Association. With MPS’s occurrence-based protection you can seek assistance for any complaint or claim arising from an adverse incident that took place during membership of MPS – even if it is brought years later, or if you have long since left MPS. You do not need to make any further arrangements for long-term protection after your membership ends.
All the benefits of membership of MPS are discretionary as set out in the Memorandum and Articles of Association.Every year MPS helps thousands of members with the problems that arise from their professional practice. Free from the detailed terms and conditions found in an insurance contract, we have the flexibility to help members even with unusual problems.
Discretion allows us to respond to changes in the medicolegal environment and assist members with emerging problems that may not have been foreseen – and therefore not included in an insurance policy at the time it was taken out.
When we take on a member’s case we can take care of all the legal costs and compensation payments.Remember, you can request assistance with any action, proceeding, claim or demand arising from your professional practice – expert advice is only ever a phone call away.
