Additional Information

The National Spinal Cord Injury Statistical Center estimates that in the United States, there are approximately 12,000 new cases of spinal cord injuries each year. (This number does not include the number of individuals who tragically suffer an immediately fatal cord injury at an accident scene.) Since 2010, motor vehicle accidents account for more than 36% of spinal cord injury cases, with another 28.5% occurring due to falls. Sadly, nearly half of all spinal cord injury accidents are suffered by individuals who are between the ages of sixteen and thirty.

The attorneys at Jacobs Law have long represented accident victims with spinal cord injuries, and they will work to get you or your loved one compensation for your injuries. Your case will be handled with your future needs in mind— there must be planning for future medical care and rehabilitation. Each case—each injured person—is special to us.

Although motorcycle accidents can happen in the blink of an eye, these often-complex events sometimes lead to life-altering consequences.Single and hit-and-run vehicle crashes often require in-depth examination as there are no bystanders to vouch for the victim’s testimony.

If there happens to be someone in the same area as the motorcycle accident, he or she may not have seen what had transpired or had the knowledge to know how the accident occurred.

Product and Services

According to statistics from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), traumatic brain injury (TBI) is a serious public health problem. In fact, Americans suffered 2.5 million TBIs in 2010 alone. A effects of a TBI can range in severity from mild (a brief change in mental status or consciousness) to severe (such as an extended period of unconsciousness).

A concussion is considered to be a type of traumatic brain injury, and recently, much publicity has been given to the long term effects of concussions, previously thought to present relatively short-lived symptoms. Specifically, multiple concussions or blows to the head are now known to be a cause of a progressive, degenerative disease called Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE). CTE has been most notably found in athletes—boxers, ice hockey players, football players, professional wrestlers, and those involved in other contact sports in which repetitive head trauma is a risk.

The impact of even an isolated incident of mild traumatic brain injury or a concussion can be life-changing. Ongoing headaches, persistent difficulty in short-term memory or word finding, confusion, moodiness, and even fatigue and excessive sleepiness (or its opposite, insomnia), can all be symptoms that may have profound effects on the daily lives of brain injury victims.

There are many resources, through health care providers, counseling centers, support groups, and even online services, which can provide helpful information to TBI victims and their families. As members of the Indiana Brain Injury Association, the lawyers at Jacobs Law can assist in getting the help you need to cope with the challenges of brain injury, while seeking the compensation you deserve when you or a loved one has suffered a concussion or TBI as a result of someone’s else careless or negligent act. We have represented many clients who have suffered from all degrees of traumatic brain injury, from mild concussions to permanent functional incapacities.

A TBI can be caused by any blow, bump, jolt, or penetrating injury to the head that disrupts the normal function of the brain. Injury to the brain can happen at work (for example, from a fall at a construction site), on the road (even in what looks to be a minor car accident), and unfortunately, also at play. While it may be difficult to initially ascertain the effects of a mild TBI, neuropsychological testing may be suggested by your doctor for assessment and subsequent coping and rehabilitative strategies. More serious injuries resulting in significant cognitive and behavioral impairments may require a treatment plan that includes future care for assistance in simple activities of daily living.
