Additional Information

Throughout your life, your skin will change constantly, regenerating itself approximately every 27 days. It acts as a barrier to protect our body from the environment, regulates temperature and detects and fights off infections. Caring for your skin is essential in maintaining it's health and vitality.

Healthy skin is well hydrated with no breaks in the surface. Healthy skin should be even in colour, and should look and feel smooth. The smoothness is caused by the uniform texture of the skin. Many skin factors can change the uniform texture of the skin, including acne, blackheads, whiteheads, wrinkles, scars and lack of hydration.

The skin cells continuously shed. If too many skin cells slough off at the same time it creates flaking skin or scaly skin. I too few slough off, dead skin cells can cling to the outer layer and leave the skin looking dull and dried out. Exfoliating the skin to remove dead skin cells and excess dirt and oil, as well as keeping the skin hydrated, will even the skin tone and leave the skin looking fresher and healthier.

Skin exfoliation has been practised by women for a long time, as far back as the ancient Egyptians who used minerals, abrasive particles and masks. Since then a number of other substances have also been used for skin exfoliation (or peeling) such as acids and poultices.

Brown sugar falls under the category of mechanical exfoliation. However, brown sugar is also a natural source of glycolic acid, an alpha hydroxy acid (AHA), which penetrates the skin and increases cell turnover, thus leaving the skin fresher and younger looking.

Product and Services

Complementary therapy is also known as alternative therapy, alternative medicine, holistic therapy and traditional medicine. A wide variety of treatments fall under this category of "complementary therapy", with each treatment has it's own unique theory supporting it.

In contrast to modern medicine (conventional medicine), complementary therapies aim to treat the the whole person, both body and mind. It works on the belief that the body and the mind is connected and that one cannot be separated from the other. All complementary treatments takes the body as a whole into consideration and aims to utilise the body's own healing mechanism.

Modern medicine, on the other hand, evolved from the belief that the mind and the body are separate. Disease and illness were seen as a mechanical breakdown and only the symptoms thereof were treated. We owe a lot to modern medicine, and complementary therapies have now started to be adopted and used by conventional medicine. Complementary therapy is a perfect partner for western medicine, however it should never be used as a stand alone treatment for a medical condition.
