If your air conditioning system is over six years old, now is the time to review the following EC legislation, EC2037/2000 which introduced an immediate ban on the use of CFCs and a phase-out programme for the production and use of HCFCs including the commonly used R-22.From 1st January 2010, it will be illegal to use virgin hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs) such as R-22, which is a commonly used refrigerant when servicing and maintaining air conditioning equipment.
Until the 31st December 2014, temporary use of recycled/recovered R-22 may still be possible but availability could be limited and supply costs may be considerable higher.
From 1st January 2015, the use of R-22 will be prohibited and any air conditioning system which uses any R-22 at all will be banned. The regulation also calls for all operators of HCFC refrigeration systems to take "all precautionary measures practicable" to prevent and minimise leakage. It states that all fixed equipment systems with a refrigerant charge of greater than 3kg will require an annual check for leakage.
This annual check must be undertaken by qualified personnel only and who will be required to properly recover any HCFC refrigerant removed from an air conditioning system.
All AlexanderAir engineers are fully trained and qualified to undertake this type of work on behalf of our customers both old and new.AlexanderAir are here to assist you manage the transition of your R-22 systems. We will help you to develop a corporate strategy to ensure your compliance with the new legislation.

To demonstrate this we can calculate the likely savings, CO2 reductions and payback period. We can also project manage the transition of your R-22 systems to ensure the smooth integration of your new systems and the safe disposal of the R-22 refrigerant.
Carbon Trust,For details about The Carbon Trust and how they can assist our commercial customers to pay for new energy saving equipment through their interest free loans, please visit our Finance page for further information.Replacement Plant,Many R-22 systems are now reasonably old and replacement through a phase-out is generally the best option as the latest air conditioning systems that use the most up to date inverter technologies are likely to have a greater cooling capabiliity (up to 15%) and use far less power (on average 50%).
